T and i had only briefly stopped in birmingham for a quick lunch last year, so we wanted to get a proper first introduction. thankfully, our hosts jess and john were happy to show us around our first night in town.
[patio drinks]
[oysters, table toys and cocktails]
[tuna tartare and the flying pig burger]
dinner was of course delicious. the oysters and tartare were superb, and the pork belly burger...oh man. i still have dreams about it!
then it was time for cocktails...
paper airplanes hanging from the ceiling, childhood board games, and made-to-order specialty bevs. the bartenders at this bar are all mixologists so, you simply had to say what liquor you liked + the flavor, and they did all the rest. the combinations they came up with were dynamite to say the least. could this place and the company be closer?
[me: bourbon and peach; jess: vodka, fruity (not sweet), with heat]
[mirror messages]
[a meeting of the minds]
[group shot]
then, we stopped by their favorite taco truck for a late night snack. it was the perfect way to end our first night in town.
the next day, pre-wedding to-dos, we had breakfast at another one of j+j's favorite spots. in true southern tradition, it was filled with all the doughy biscuits, gravy, and fried chicken you could want. it was bliss.
[goat cheese, fried chicken, green onions, and sweet pepper jelly]
sadly, we weren't able to do more, but i have a sneaking suspicion we will be back :)
