pipe shelving

you know those house projects that have been on your to-do list for a long time, but, for whatever reason, keep getting put to the back burner? our pipe shelving project in our dining room was at the tip top of that list since we'd first moved into our home. but, for loads of reasons - not enough time, not the right time, the financial commitment, etc, etc - it kept getting pushed to the wayside. 

then, at our three year home-aversary, after a recent decluttering, it felt like it was the perfect time to cross this project off our list. 

when we first moved in, we initially placed a bookshelf there, but found it cut off the room. over time, we realized it created a bottleneck effect when the pups were charging out the door, or when we had groups of friends over. plus, it never felt like it was the right fit for the space.

our hopes for the shelves were to create better looking storage that could tie this wall into the sort of industrial-rustic look we have in our home. 

the result? greater than we could have ever hoped for. i could finally bring in my cookbooks so that they were in a logical place while being closer to when and where they'd be used. plus, all of our kitchen gadgets and trinkets look so much better. an added bonus was that it finally opened the room back up aka no more bottlenecking - yes!

not too long ago, T and i met up with the lovely, melissa green, to take our engagement photos. and although it was set in a winter month, the weather was beautifully fall-like. it couldn't have been more perfect of a setting to get all cozied up to each other.

 

 

thank you so much melissa for making us feel comfortable and capturing us in such a lovely way. your patience, direction, and laughs made it all the more easier.

running wild

 

this past weekend, T and i decided to take advantage of some extra sunny (and warm-ish) weather by taking the pups out so play. since our babes are a bit bigger, we try to take them out to less crowded areas so they can run around, roughhouse, and play fetch. plus, seeing our two run around sans leash can be a bit alarming to non-dog friendly folks. so, we just avoid the fuss and keep it simple.

 

it seemed that once we parked the car, the boys went from zero to one hundred on excitement as they took off to play tag with each other, leave notes, play with hay, and run alongside T.

we had such a great time that we may make it our weekly routine for them. plus, the boys napped the afternoon away once we got home...bonus! ;)

happy hump day! i felt like celebrating with a few details that had been catching my eye lately. hope you enjoy them too.

breakfast

now for those who do not know, breakfast is quite easily my least favorite meal. and not because i dislike breakfast foods, quite the contrary - i love it, but i really dislike waking up so early (by early, i mean in the AM hours..they're all early in my book). hence why pancake saturday is one of my favorite breakfasts since T whips them up once i've woken up; which is hours after T's first breakfast ;)

however, several weeks ago i felt like i wanted to give a go at making pancakes and felt like this recipe via the rockstar diaries was just easy enough for my barely 'wake brain to make!

since i couldn't decide whether to have a strawberry or blueberry 'cake, we had both. equally yummy and equally easy to whip up. i mean who knows, i may just start taking over pancake saturdays! well, let's not get ahead of ourselves ;)

sorry for the gap in posts! the past week+ has been a little of an off week for us as we've been: enduring the raging 105+ degree heat wave rocking through, T and i came down with an icky virus and, we kept our eyes out for news about wildfires in the area....not exactly our favorite but there were some great moments in between like: T (when we weren't sick) made his homemade cookies - amazing, the pups had some funny fights and, we had netflix marathons of arrested development.

side note, i can't believe i waited so long to check out arrested development - it's so funny! i really should have been more on the ball with that (to switch it up a bit, we watched the infamous mystery flick chinatown which was dynamite in itself - i never saw the twist coming!)

over the weekend

friday night T and i made our way over to our neighborhood deli for some yummy pulled pork sandwiches and a little local musical delight. the person featured below is a homegrown tomato by the name of camille harp who has a way with writing songs and a folky rasp to her voice. i kind of have something of a girl crush on her and you would too if you heard her. plus i always love a fellow curly girl ;)

then sunday we made our way to tulsa to see a sweet indie band by the name of edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros. i have been dying to see them in concert and even though it meant we had to drive there and back (same day..boo), it was worth it!

we first stopped at my favorite mexi restaurant el guapo for some margies and food with my parents. if you are EVER in tulsa you must go there. and please sit on their rooftop patio..it's the jam.

he's just the greatest :) i also loved the pregger mom standing behind us at the concert. kudos!
