looking forward to

while prepping for all the holiday festivities in the next couple days, a small snow flurry blew through! and while it's nothing to write home about, our two pups just love any excuse to run around and play in it. so, T and i bundled up to play a little fetch, tag, and soccer...

solo was very determined to win at fetch...

that is, until boba became more interested in playing soccer...

[truly partners in crime :)]

then, we headed back in to warm our toes, watch some movies, and work on whipping up more delicious turkey day (and friendsgiving day) desserts.

[these faces...i really am a sucker for them]

happy early turkey day to everyone. i hope you all get to celebrate with those you love, remember to count your blessings, and relax.

gobble, gobble!

jewel tones

over the weekend, a frigid cold front blew through so we've been keeping warm by layering up, drinking lots of hot cocoa, and, eating savory soups and stews. i always tend to forget how scarves and other winter accesories can add so much extra to an outfit with little effort. this one, believe it or not, i found at walgreens while looking for a new nail polish. it was the perfect jewel-toned, speckled scarf i never knew i was looking for, and the extra pizzazz to help brighten up such gloomy weather.

cositas

[cute, festive themed additions to some halloween cupcakes]

over the weekend, i decided i would go through my clothes and do a complete overhaul of my closet. and, while it was slightly overwhelming at first to deal with the piles (and piles...seriously, if i ever say i have nothing to wear, feel free to remind me of the opposite) of clothing, it is such a relief to know where everything is when i get ready for the day. happy hump day!

[this salad...i have it five times a week and it is like candy, i love it that much]

das boot

to really break into the cooler weather, the intro of heavier, warm your bones, type of food begins. all the delicious stews, soups, roasts...i love it. and, it is also the time of year i re-introduce myself to german food. i had been hearing for months about how tasty das boot was and decided it would be perfect for us to try it out with laun & andrew (or l&a).

[i loved their glass boot light installation]

[2 liters never looked like such a challenge]

so, one of the obvious go-tos with german food is the beer, which, i am sadly not a fan. but, T and l&a were able to enjoy their boots while i sipped on their dynamite apple whiskey cocktail.

[the jager roast with homemade noodles]

[apple strudel]

needless to say, between the bratwurst, roast, bread, strudel...it was amazing and left us with full, warm bellies to take on the chill that night. thanks again for coming with us l&a and can't wait to go back!

[success!!]

fall sangria

it's friday, so, let's celebrate with seasonal sangria. mmm. this one is pretty easy, minus having to wait a couple days before enjoying it...so, let's quit wasting time and get to it!

here's what you'll need:
1-2 bottles of either cab or shiraz (depending on how big of a pitcher you're using)
1/2 cup of peach brandy
1 cup of club soda
1 orange, halved and quartered
1 honeycrisp apple, thinly sliced
1 granny smith apple, thinly sliced
1 pomegranate, halved and de-seeded
1 pitcher
1 muddler
2 bowls

directions
1. first, place your sliced apples (see below photo) in the pitcher.
2. then, squeeze the juice from your oranges into the pitcher before dropping them in.
...

directions, continued
3. once your pomegranate seeds have been removed, split them between the two bowls. (see below photo).
4. make sure your pups are on standby to snack on any seeds that happen to fall on the floor.
5. in the first bowl, muddle the seeds lightly. the idea is not the crush the seeds but, to release the awesome pom juice.
6. place both bowls of seeds into the pitcher.
7. now, add your soda, brandy and red wine. lightly swirl the concoction around and then place in the fridge. ideally, it is best when left to mix for 2 days but, if you are feeling antsy, at least wait overnight.
8. enjoy!

art walk

last friday, T and i checked out the monthly art walk where we heard a few food trucks would be posted up at. it was there we got to try the loaded bowl, which if you haven't tried it, is vegan comfort food. and i know you're asking, are we secretly vegans?, and the answer is no. but, their menu items were appetizing enough that even T wanted more!

once our bellies were filled with their awesome cashew mac n' cheese, we then checked out the new art in stash and main site.

[i loved these two together with their mouse-eared hats]

[mariposa coffee, you are always a delight]

berry filled

sometimes you just can't help but say yes. i saw this sweater while grocery shopping at target (okay, i intentionally walked through the clothing area, you caught me.) and knew this would be a perfect addition to my cold weather wardrobe. it was the perfect balance between soft, non-itchy texture and thick fibers to keep me warm. that, with it's shade of raspberry that looked like it was the berry filled slice of pie...like i said, an easy yes :)
